Terms of Use
These Terms of Use (“Terms“) govern your access to and use of the Laika Family website, mobile app, and connected smart device (together, the “Services“), provided by Laika Family Ltd (“Laika Family“, “we”, “us”). By creating an account, purchasing a device, or using our Services, you agree to these Terms.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United Kingdom to register an account or purchase a Laika device, unless otherwise agreed with us in writing.
2. Our Services
Laika Family provides a smart safety device, a companion mobile app, and an optional subscription that unlocks features including pet profiles, the Emergency Animal Card, and Lost Pet Mode. Some features may be under development, trial, or subject to change as we improve the product.
3. Account registration
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, including pet profile and emergency contact details, and for keeping your login credentials secure. You must notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account.
4. Subscription, payment and cancellation
- Certain features require a paid subscription, billed on the basis described at checkout (e.g. monthly or annually).
- You can cancel your subscription at any time via your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
5. Important safety disclaimer
The Laika device and app are designed to provide additional information and support to emergency responders and pet owners. They are not a substitute for a certified smoke alarm, are not a certified life-safety or fire detection product, and do not guarantee that emergency services will attend, locate, or rescue a pet in any given incident. You should continue to maintain working smoke alarms in your home and follow standard fire safety practice.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted connectivity, notification delivery, or that any third party (including emergency services or other app users) will act on information shared through the Services.
6. Lost Pet Mode
Lost Pet Mode shares your pet’s photo, name, temperament, approach guidance, and your contact details with other Laika app users within the relevant radius. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information shared and for deactivating the feature once your pet is found.
7. Data sharing with third parties
As explained in our Privacy Policy, limited data may be shared with emergency services during an active incident, and — where you have consented — with partner organisations under our data intelligence licensing programme. By using the Services, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy governs how your data is used and shared.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Services, including by providing false information, attempting to interfere with the operation of the device or app, or using the Services for any unlawful purpose.
9. Intellectual property
The Laika device, app, branding, and underlying technology are the property of Laika Family Ltd, including patent-pending hardware and detection systems. You may not copy, reverse-engineer, or reproduce our technology or content without our written permission.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Laika Family shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Services, including any loss, injury, or harm to a pet, save where such liability cannot be excluded by law (including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud).
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms. You may close your account at any time via your account settings or by contacting us.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
